The powerful portables

When it comes to portability, safety and user-friendliness, there’s nothing to beat this outstanding range of lightweight, single and two-cylinder engines from Yamaha. They are all easy to start, easy to maintain and easy to operate, which has made them the outboard of choice in this sector, for both professionals and leisure users, for many years. Full pivot, 360° swivel steering, integral fuel tank and steering friction adjustment on the smallest model makes it child’s play to carry, fit and operate.

The trusty Yamaha 5 is renowned the world over for its sturdy engineering and dependability. Features like selective tilt position control, steering friction adjustment, twist-grip throttle, shallow water drive, CDI ignition and thermostatic controlled cooling are standard on all these models and the special 100:1 fuel/oil ratio adds further to their economy.

Five powerful, quiet, portable solutions from Yamaha, each one designed to bring you many years of boating pleasure.

The powerful portables

Whatever sort of performance your day-to-day boating demands, this range of 2 and 3-cylinder outboards will deliver all the fun and enjoyment you expect, with smooth, quiet, economical efficiency.

A wide spectrum of the most advanced Yamaha technologies is built into these outboards, including the unique Yamaha Autolube Multipoint™ oil injection system. This real-time system injects oil automatically into the engine at the correct ratio, according to the engine speed, load, and operating conditions. So the engine gets maximum protection, and the owner gets peace of mind and convenience!

Whether you’re planning some peaceful fishing, a holiday packed with action and watersports, or you want to put your engine to work in a commercial environment, the Yamaha 20 to 50 line-up probably includes the perfect partner.

60 - 70 - 75 - 90

Light weight with optimum power

In this exciting 60 to 90 powerband, Yamaha’s 3-cylinder engine technology combines light weight with optimum power and flexibility, to ensure an ideal balance for the boat. Whether you need breathtaking speed from a smaller boat or high speed cruising performance from a larger hull, these engines are designed to deliver it.

In addition to the Autolube Multipoint™ system, these engines feature Yamaha’s PrimeStart™ Auto Choke feature, which makes starting your outboard as easy as starting your car!

Most models also have the brilliantly engineered dual-speed Power Trim and Tilt system for which Yamaha outboards have become well known. A real advantage for the performance-minded owner, and a very professional way of adjusting ride levels and trim on the run, at the push of a button.

The ability to operate for hour after hour at low rpm, also makes these engines a favourite choice for fishing, and for exploring long, quiet rivers.

115 - 130

High-end speed and performance

Although they are not our most powerful models, the 115 and 130 demonstrate just how much speed, performance, comfort and handling can be packed into a sleek, compact package when the Yamaha engineers set their minds to it!

These are the super-smooth, loop-charged V-4 engines which have made such an impact on the world of watersports and performance sportsboating. Their ease of control, smoothness, quiet operation and economy make these outboards the ideal power source, whether used for waterskiing, wakeboarding or any other form of high speed fun!

Along with all the excitement, come the usual exclusive Yamaha advantages of Autolube Multipoint™ and Wide Range Power Trim and Tilt.

150 - 200 - 250

Dynamic V-6 power!

Make no mistake. All three of these dynamic V-6 units are really powerful, capable, and technically advanced engines, with a multitude of specialist Yamaha features that will make your boating trips enjoyable, exciting, exhilarating …. and safe.

They all have slightly different performance attributes (such as six independent carburettors on the 250A) but common to them all are many other advantages … dual battery charging system, digital speedo and tach, high-output alternator, and specially heat-treated piston rings, gears and crankshaft for extended life.

For twin-engine installations, the 200 and 250 models are also available with a counter-rotating propeller.

The 150 to 250 models. High-end performance, low-end torque and a dazzling array of features.

(High Pressure Direct Injection)

HPDI - The clean, lean burn

Yamaha’s High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) system is a quantum leap ahead of conventional injection technologies. Out there on the water, HPDI makes its presence felt in the form of dynamic, instantaneous power; smooth and effortless output right through the engine’s power range; and an efficient, clean burn that makes HPDI models the most eco-friendly engines in their class.

The secret? Yamaha engineers devised a way of atomising the fuel under enormous pressure, creating a fine, fuel-laden mist inside the combustion chamber rather than the relatively coarse droplets found in conventional engine designs. The result is more power, lower fuel consumption, and lower emissions.

And there’s more: six sophisticated sensors and a microcomputer Engine Control Module (ECM) adjust ignition timing, air/fuel mix and other vital settings on the fly. In recent tests, Yamaha’s HPDI technology showed up to a 35% reduction in fuel consumption, at speed, over a conventional EFI system. Yet another example of Yamaha leadership.

At the high end of high technology, the HPDI 300 delivers 220kW (300hp) from a finely tuned 3.4-litre V6. Computer-optimised combustion, Autolube Multipoint™ oil injection, advanced noise reduction and 4-cylinder idling are just some of the features of this state-of-the-art engine.

And, by the way, apart from a purpose-built racing engine, it’s by far the most powerful outboard you can buy. Anywhere in the world.

VMAX High Pressure Direct Injection

Taking HPDI performance to extremes

Take Yamaha’s HPDI system and combine it with tournament-proven engineering — and then stand well back. Because that’s the formula behind the shattering acceleration and performance of the Yamaha Vmax models.

T
hese highly optimised engines are designed to deliver breathtaking ‘out of the hole’ acceleration and blistering top speeds. Every aspect of the design — from the special water inlets to the unique concave skeg and the Peak Response Induction System — is geared for performance.

This is where Yamaha’s long experience in 2-stroke racing really shows! Hit the throttles and feel the power catapult you out of the hole. Feel how quickly and effortlessly the boat comes onto the plane. And then you’ll realise why Yamaha introduced HPDI right across the Vmax family. Quite simply, it’s an unstoppable combination.

Yet, beneath the street-fighter aggression of these engines, you’ll find the polished good manners of a Yamaha. Every Vmax HPDI will run clean and smooth, with excellent fuel economy for its power. It will be quiet, too: barely audible at idle, with a restrained growl when pushed hard — proof yet again that when you’re this big and powerful, you don’t need to make a whole lot of noise about it.
